Let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll learn…

  • What makes an affiliate program great.
  • How to choose the best affiliate program + product to promote.

What Exactly is an Affiliate Program?

For bloggers, an affiliate program is something you join so that you can promote and earn of someone else's products. It's also where you'd  get all your links, banners, tracking reports, payday info, and more.

For product owners and companies, it is a program where you get people to promote your products without having to hire salesman.

Win, win.

There are 2 types of affiliate programs you could join:

  • Affiliate networks - the ones like Shareasale where they have a giant list of merchants.
  • Private affiliate programs - the ones like Amazon Associates where they have all their own products.

An affiliate program like CJ Affiliate is one that doesn’t have its own products or services. But instead – is rather a network of companies that can’t host their own affiliate programs.

For example – Shareasale:

Now, a private affiliate program:

These are the ones that are hosted by the companies themselves.

A perfect example of a private (or in-house) affiliate program would be Amazon’s – Amazon Associates.

How Does an Affiliate Program Work?

Affiliate programs work by signing up marketers (aka affiliates / publishers) – which would be you – to sell/promote their products and services.

Affiliate programs provide their affiliates with marketing tools like:

  • Affiliate links – these are the links you share with your readers. If they click and buy, you get a commission.
  • Banner ads – you can place these on your website’s sidebar, header, or footer. An ad will have your affiliate link in it.tracking – you’ll be able to track how many people click on your links.
  • Tracking - this is so you'll know how your affiliate links are doing. Most programs track clicks, impressions, and sales.

Now, let’s go over the…

Benefits of choosing the right affiliate programs:

Once you choose the program and you have it set up, you will start enjoying the benefits.

You won't have to worry about nothing.

Even if you are new in affiliate marketing you will not have to worry about the expense of trying to design and manufacture products, because this will already be taken care of for you.

Tips to Choose The Best Affiliate Marketing Program

Now that you know what an affiliate program is, how it works, and the benefits of choosing the right program – it’s time you learn how to choose one.

Do a complete research and also an investigation on the merchant before you agree to form an affiliation with them.

Failure to do this may make you end up with a merchant who will not pay your commission fees.

Look for a merchant whose product has a demand.

This product should be unique and be able to provide a solution to the customer. The product or service you choose must also have a potential to grow.

Check out the commission rates.

Some programs only offer 1-5% with no chance of that ever rising. Some offer their affiliates 10, 20, 30 even 80%.

Some might even offer multiple tier payouts on any new affiliates that you will refer. Meaning you’d get paid a percentage every time the person you referred makes a sale (every month, even).

So, when you’re looking for an affiliate program – make sure you’re happy with the commission rates.

Confirm the stability and the credibility of the company.

This can be done by making sure that the company has a successful record in paying affiliate marketing commissions.

Look for a program that provides training on how to navigate through and use the marketing tools.

Confirm if anyone else has made money with that service or product first before you join it.

Look at the reviews of the affiliate marketing programs that you want to join so you are able to get a general idea of what other people think.

Some of the questions you can ask yourself concerning the affiliate marketing programs is if the product or service is good and if you would want to buy the product or use it on yourself.

Therefore choose an affiliate program that has a product or service that will actually sell and have some earning potential.

Make sure that they provide everything you’ll need to make affiliate sales.

  • Banners / ads – a nice banner ad will look nice with your website’s design.
  • Affiliate links that automatically generates when you choose a product.
  • Tracking – for A/B testing.

To earn decent money through affiliate marketing starts with the right affiliate program.

And with the tips I shared above, you have all the help you need to choose an affiliate program that has everything you to generate affiliate sales and earn commissions.
